What are the mold polishing techniques?
(1/28/2021)
Nowadays, improving the quality of molds has become an important task in the process of the development of machined products in the direction of diversification and precision. In the process of mold manufacturing, the surface grinding and polishing of the parts after the shape processing has become an important process to improve the quality of the mold. Reasonable use of polishing methods is of great help to improve the quality and service life of the mold. So, what are the commonly used polishing methods?

Commonly used mold polishing technology

1. Mechanical polishing
Mold polishing relies on cutting or plastic deformation of the surface to remove the protruding part of the surface of the workpiece to obtain a flat picture polishing method. The most commonly used are oil stone strips, wool wheels, sandpaper, etc., mainly manual operation, high surface quality The method of super fine grinding can be used. Ultra-precision grinding and polishing adopts special abrasive tools. In the grinding and polishing liquid containing abrasives, the workpiece is pressed against the processed surface for high-speed rotation.

2. Chemical polishing
The basic principle of chemical polishing is to dissolve the microscopically protruding part of the surface preferentially than the concave part through the substance in the chemical medium, and obtain a smooth plane. This method has a good polishing effect for workpieces with complex shapes, and it can also complete more The polishing of each workpiece is highly efficient.

3. Electrolytic polishing
The basic principle of electrolytic polishing is similar to that of chemical polishing. It is achieved by selectively dissolving tiny protrusions on the surface of the material to achieve smooth surface. Compared with chemical polishing, it has a good effect on eliminating cathode reactions.

4. Ultrasonic polishing
Ultrasonic polishing is a processing method that uses the tool section to perform ultrasonic vibration and polishes brittle and hard materials through abrasive suspensions. The workpiece with abrasive suspension is placed in the ultrasonic field, and the abrasive is ground and polished on the surface of the workpiece through the vibration of ultrasonic. Ultrasonic machining has a small macro force and will not cause deformation of the workpiece, but its disadvantage is that it is difficult to make and install tooling.

5. Fluid polishing
Fluid polishing mainly relies on flowing liquid and carried abrasive particles to wash the surface of the workpiece to achieve the purpose of polishing. The hydrodynamic grinding is driven by hydraulic pressure. The medium is mainly made of special compounds with good flowability under lower pressure and mixed with abrasives. The abrasives can be made of silicon carbide powder.

6. Magnetic grinding and polishing
Magnetic grinding and polishing mainly use the condition of a magnetic field to form an abrasive brush to grind the surface of the workpiece. The advantages of this method are high processing efficiency, good quality, and relatively easy control of processing conditions.

7. EDM ultrasonic composite polishing
In order to improve the surface polishing speed, the composite polishing method is used to polish the surface of the workpiece. The corrosion of ultrasonic vibration and electric pulse acts on the surface of the workpiece at the same time, and the surface roughness is quickly reduced. This method has a very effective polishing effect on the rough surface of the mold.
